Carolina Fiber Fest Visit

Hello my fiber friends! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Carolina Fiber Festival in Raleigh, NC! I wandered around the beautiful booths, met up with some fiber friends, and got myself into some fibery trouble! Well, according to my bank account anyway. 🙂

There were so many amazing vendors! I had a lovely conversation with Natasha, from Unplanned Peacock Studio, who kindly offered to dye a special skein of singles up for me! She went through a few of her colorways and even wrote down my favorites so I could decide and put in an order. Yarn dyers are the best!

I also got to see my knitty Facebook friends! We stopped traffic in the isles to take pictures and recruited a very sweet gal to snap our picture. Fiber festivals are great mini retreats for fiber friends, and it turns out, a great place to make new friends! I met some wonderful new friends while manning the booth for the Ol’ North State Knitting Guild, which I had recently joined. If you are in the Raleigh area, do check us out and come knit with us!

The Carolina Fiber Festival isn’t just about yarn, there were all sorts of spinning, weaving, needlework, and other vendors as well! Seeing some beautiful spinning wheels and these gorgeous drop spindles made desperately want to practice my spinning! I have a wheel and spindles – and fiber! – so now I need to make time to spin. If you are a fiber lover, there was something here for you, too! The wheel above was part of the display for Twisted Threads Fiber Arts Guild; the drop spindles are made by The Clay Sheep.

Just for fun, I got myself some Henna tattoos from the Sonali Club of Raleigh. Love them! Although, admittedly, I was not able to sit still long enough for it dry completely and did happen to smudge one on my shirt. Oops!

Of course, last but certainly not least, the trouble I got into! Last year at Fiber Fest I passed up some gorgeous tweed yarn from Iria Yarn Compay, and kicked myself for it all year! This year I was determined not to make the same mistake, so I picked up 4 skeins that I will fade together, either in a sweater or a shawl.

The second set of yarn is from the very dear Shellee of Haute Knit Yarn. I am smitten! This is on her Trever Morgan DK base and it is absolutely perfect for me to finally knit a Comfort Fade Cardi by Andrea Mowry. The rich pink and mint green colorways jumped out at me, and happened to be named after a song I love, Color Me Once by the Violent Femmes. I chose the other two colorways based on those two (with the help of a new friend, Tracy) and I can’t wait to get started!
